Chickpea Curry/ Sarupkari Recipe/ No Dal, No Garam Masala, No Coconut

The delicious version of Chickpea curry without using lentils (dal) or garam masala. Chickpea is called Chana in Hindi, Chano in Konkani. Chickpea is very healthy. It is known for its own nutritional benefits. This curry is Konkani recipe/ Amchigele style/ Coastal curry recipe. The ingredients or items required and the preparation time is also less. The use of garlic in the curry enriches the nutritional benefits and also the taste. The speciality of this recipe is it is an Indian vegetable sambar/ sambhar recipe prepared without dal/ lentils. South Indian curry recipe best suited for rice. It is in form and perfect chickpea soup. The ingredients or items required and the preparation time is also less. The use of garlic with red chillies in the curry enriches the nutritional benefits and also the taste.

This curry is authentic Konkani curry prepared instantly and when you have no time or no vegetables at home. The blend of garlic with the chickpeas, garlic and red chillies always provides aroma.   2. Do not overcook the chickpeas

  4. Use kabuli chickpea for better taste. However, black chickpeas also gives authentic taste.

Ingredients Required

1. Chana/ Kabul kadle/ Chickpea –2 cups

2. Water –5 cups

3. Salt –3 spoons (according to taste)

Seasoning: 1. Garlic pods –4-5 (medium), 2. Red chillies –3, 3. Oil –2 tbsp.

Method:

Step 1: Cook Chickpeas. Either wash and soak it overnight or boil for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Cook 1 cup chana for 6 Whistles with 2 cups water. Do not overcook.

Step 3: Allow it to release pressure, add water if 2-3 cups if water is absorbed.

Step 4: Add 2 table spoon Salt (as per taste).

Step 5: Roast 5-6 Garlic pods in 1 tbsp oil.

Step 6: Add 3-4 Red chillies after garlic is roasted and roast it lightly (as per spice level).

Step 7: Add this garlic seasoning to the curry and serve with rice or as a chickpea soup.
