Panchakajjaya/ Konkani style panchkaday/ chana pankaday

Panchakajjaya, the name itself tells it contains 5 main ingredients. The simple naivedhyam recipe using chickpeas. Chickpeas are called Kala chana in Hindi, ಕಡಲೆಕಾಳು in Kannada and Chano in Konkani . The recipe tastes too delicious. Chickpeas have many nutritional values and good for health.  How to grind or powder chickpeas in home mixer? Please roast the chickpeas before grinding. Roast it on low flame; it takes hardly 10 minutes and allow it to cool. It helps in smooth grinding. This is Konkani style/ Mangalore style recipe which are prepared mainly during shravan/ savan month Chudi pooja/ Tulsi pooja/ Ganesh chaturthi festival time sweet.

Easy, quick and simple sweet recipe in 20 minutes. This sweet recipe is prepared without sugar/ cheeni ke bina. The ingredients required and the preparation time is also less. The use of coconut in the sweet enriches the nutritional benefits and also the taste. This is South Indian sweet recipe best prepared during festivals (normally). This can be treated as easy and quick festival sweet or snacks time sweet recipe. Good for kids and all ages. Here, i have used the standard cup measurement. But it can be replaced with normal available cups. Measurement is given. Prasad reicpe, bhog recipe, Sweet recipe without using sugar or jaggery based sweets are good and can be eaten more 😉

How to replace dry coconut (store bought desiccated coconut) in place of fresh coconut?

Tricks: Soak the dry desiccated coconut in warm water for 10 minutes or cold water for 15 minutes. Till the water absorbs.

How to replace standard cups with normal home available cup? cups in spoons.

1 standard cup = 16 table spoons.

3/4th standard cup = 12 table spoons.

Tricks for good taste:

  1. Use fresh coconut for more flavour. However, the dry desiccated coconut gives the same if soaked for 10 minutes.
  2. Roast the chickpeas on low flame. If roasted on high flame, the inside part will not get roasted well.
  3. Grind the chickpeas to coarse powder. Just like the texture of rava (semolina).
  4. Add Ghee at the end if required. It enriches the flavor (optional).

1. Water4tbsp
2. Brown Chickpeas/ Kala chana/ kadalekaalu 1 cup
3. Jaggery 1 cup
4. Coconut desiccated3/4th cup
5. Cardamom pods3-4
6. Dry fruits (optional)any

Method:

Step 1: Take 1 cup Chickpeas (any cup or normal bowl can be replaced; please measure every item in the same).

Step 2: Roast it on low flame for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Allow it to cool completely.

Step 4: Add 3-4 pods of cardamom.

Step 5: Grind to coarse powder (like rava/ fine semolina).

Step 6: Add 1 cup Jaggery to a pan with 4tbsp water.

Step 7: Dissolve well (no lumps) and filter if any impurities.

Step 8: When it boils, add 3/4th cup fresh coconut and saute till water absorbs. (2mins)

Step 9: Allow it to cool . This becomes thick with little moisture once cooled. This is called as churna/ churan.

Step 10: Add the ground powder and mix batch wise. Please do not make it dry.
